Description

PM Sury Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme is a government initiative aimed at providing free electricity to households in India. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024, the scheme offers subsidies for families to install solar panels on their rooftops. The subsidy will cover up to 40% of the cost of solar panels. This scheme is expected to benefit 10 million families across India and save the government an estimated ₹75,000 crore in electricity costs annually.

The benefits of the scheme include:

Eligibility

  1. The family must be Indian citizens.
  2. The family must own a house with a rooftop suitable for installing solar panels.
  3. The family must have a valid electricity connection.
  4. The family must not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels.

Application Process

Online

  1. Visit the official website.
  2. Provide the following details for registration:
    • Select your state.
    • Select your electricity distribution company.
    • Enter your electricity consumer number.
    • Enter your mobile number.
    • Enter your email.
    • Follow the portal instructions.
  3. Log in with the consumer number and mobile number.
  4. Apply for rooftop solar as per the form.
  5. Fill out the online application form.
  6. Wait for feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once approved, have the plant installed by any registered vendor of DISCOM.
  7. After installation, submit plant details and apply for a net meter.
  8. After net meter installation and inspection by DISCOM, they will prepare the commissioning certificate via the portal.
  9. Once you receive the commissioning report, submit bank account details and a canceled check via the portal. Your subsidy will be credited to your bank account within 30 days.

  2. Proof of address.
  3. Electricity bill.
  4. Proof of roof ownership.
